Laser Surgery is an excellent means of treating or removing soft tissue lesions. Although lasers have vast application in medicine and dentistry, the laser is a surgical device only and not a panacea. It is not indicated for the treatment of the most periodontal problems. We use the laser when we feel it most beneficial for the patient with specific needs.

HYPERKERATOSIS

Using the laser, this hyperkeratosis at the junction of the attached and unattached maxillary gingival mucosa can be vaporized without affecting underlying tissue, resulting in minimal, if any scarring or swelling.   A three-week post-operative visit shows excellent healing with no residual hyperkeratosis or scarring of the mouth.

MUCOCELE

The laser provides a technique for excising the mucocele without the need for sutures or potential for distortion of the lip.   One week later, the site is healing favorably. The patient has had minimal discomfort.

FRENECTOMY

Pre-operative facial view of aberrant maxillary frenum muscle attachment between central incisors.   Completed healing of laser frenectomy one month post-operative. Note tissue health.
